Friday Night

Fight Night was a great success. We had a good crowd and some great boxing action. I've been to a lot of boxing shows over the years and even though I may be a little prejudiced, this was a barn burner. All the bouts were action packed and for those who have come to a couple of our shows, the progress the fighters have made was obvious. The gym made a little money to defray the cost of transporting the fighters to Indy for the Golden Gloves and the licensing fees required. It also enabled the fighters to get some work before a crowd. Without some ring time prior to the Gloves, most guys suffer the jitters so badly, they forget just about everything you ever taught them.

Fight Night

Friday night is Fight Night. This is an in-house show to give our fighters a chance to showcase their talents and to raise money to defray the expenses of transporting the fighters to the upcoming Golden Gloves Tourney starting in March. We've got 9 or 10 bouts scheduled and they all should be good match-ups.

Tickets are $8.00, doors open at 6:00 pm, fights start at 7:00.

Hope to see you there!

A Little Bit About Us

The DeMotte Boxing Club has been in business for a little over a year. It was formed as a partnership between myself, Coach Mengel, and Jimmy Holmes. Jimmy and I are both school teachers. I coached Jimmy as an amateur boxer when he won the Indiana Golden Gloves. Jimmy is still fighting as a pro with a record of 18 wins - 1 loss, with 9 wins by KO. Jimmy had always dreamed of running his own boxing gym and I've been involved in the sport one way or the other since back in the Seventies so it was only natural that we got together on this.

The gym is small but we've been very successful so far due to the hard work of the fighters and the help we get from our other coaches, Mike and Ernie. We maintain a family friendly atmosphere that caters to the serious fighter as well as the individual just looking to shed a few pounds and get into shape. Boxing workouts are great to supplement running or weight training. It's a great way to keep your cardio up without spending all that time on the treadmill while we all wait for the arrival of Spring.

If you're a Jasper County, Indiana resident or have easy access to I-65, stop in and see us.

Fight Night

Our next in-house boxing show will be Friday, the 19th of this month. Tickets are eight dollars. The show will be a fundraiser to help defray the cost of taking fighters to the Golden Gloves and to give the fighters a little work right before the big show.

We're looking at entering between twelve to fifteen fighters in the Gloves this year. The fights are every Thursday night starting March 11th and running for six consecutive weeks. Last year we made at least five trips down. That's a lot of gas and time but it was well worth it. We entered twelve fighters and came home with six state titles, a Fighter of the Tourney award, and a Coach of the Year award. Not bad for our first year as an organized club. I'm not sure how we're looking this year. We have several new fighters and a couple of guys with injuries that were proven competitors. As always, time will tell.

Hope to see you at the show on the 19th.
